Special Issue for the People and Rescuers in Haiti

The November/December issue of the Wilderness Medicine Newsletter was originally to be an issue dedicated to Celiac disease. When an emergency call goes out, it brings to mind a team of men and women scrambling to their ambulances and then racing down the road with lights flashing and sirens blaring. Through quick notification, rapid response, state-of-the-art equipment, extensive training, rapid extrication, and speedy transport to an emergency department, the sick and injured are very well cared for. But, what happens when this chain of events is delayed? What if the distance to the scene, difficult terrain, or bad weather delays notification or slows the response time?
